Kitchen with LED strip lighting in a ceiling cove, under the cabinets and along the island

LED Strip Lighting

Strips, aluminium profiles, drivers and controls that are chosen to work together. Pick a strip, give it a profile, power it and choose how you switch it.

How it fits together

Four parts, one system

Every strip light is the same four parts. Tap a step to see how to choose it.

Choose your strip
Step 1

Choose your strip

Brightness first. Watts per metre tells you how bright a strip is.

  • Low, up to about 7W/m: shelves, display cabinets, bedheads, night lights.
  • Medium, about 8 to 14W/m: under kitchen cabinets, ceiling coves, wardrobes.
  • High, 15W/m and up: when the strip is the main light in a room or a commercial space.

Then the colour of light. 3000K is warm white for living areas and bedrooms. 4000K is natural white for kitchens and bathrooms. 6000K is cool white for garages and workshops. Tunable white lets you move between warm and cool, and RGB adds colour.

Dots or no dots? Dot-Free (COB) strips give one smooth line even in a shallow profile, so use them anywhere the strip is close to the eye. Standard strips are brighter per watt and look smooth in a deeper profile or a ceiling cove.

Wet areas. Bathrooms, outdoors and anywhere damp need an IP65 or IP67 strip or neon flex.

Choose a profile
Step 2

Choose a profile

An aluminium profile with a milky cover does three jobs: it hides the dots, protects the strip, and draws heat away so the strip lasts longer.

  • Check the width. Every profile lists the widest strip it takes. The chart below shows which strips fit each one.
  • Surface profiles screw or clip onto the underside of a cabinet or shelf.
  • Recessed profiles sit in a groove or a cut-out, with a flange to hide the edge.
  • Trimless profiles are plastered into the wall or ceiling, so the light looks like a slot in the plaster.

Profiles come in 2m or 2.5m lengths. You can see samples in both our showrooms.

Power it
Step 3

Power it

Every strip needs a constant voltage driver that matches its voltage.

  • Add up the watts: watts per metre multiplied by the metres you are installing.
  • Allow 20% headroom: divide that total by 0.8 and pick the next driver size up. A 5m reel of a 10W/m strip is 50W. Divided by 0.8 that is 62.5W, so it needs a 100W driver. We stock 35W, 60W, 100W and 150W.
  • Damp areas: our drivers are sealed to IP67, so they suit damp spots too.

Every strip page works out the driver size for the length you enter.

Choose how you switch it (optional)
Step 4

Choose how you switch it (optional)

Optional. A strip runs on its driver alone. Add a control only if you want to dim it, change colour or switch it with a sensor.

  • Remote dimmer kit: a wireless touch remote and receiver for single colour strips. Each output handles up to 72W.
  • RGB remote kit: colour wheel remote for RGB strips and RGB neon.
  • Sensors: motion for hallways and stairs, door for wardrobes and pantries, hand-wave for kitchens, touch dimmer for vanities and bedheads. Each runs up to 100W.
  • Bigger loads: a power repeater lets one controller dim a strip that needs more than one driver.

Common questions

Do I need a driver?

Yes. Every strip needs a constant voltage driver that matches its voltage, between the strip and the mains. Choose a driver about 20% bigger than the total wattage of the strip. Each strip page shows the driver size for its length.

What is the difference between Dot-Free and standard strips?

Dot-Free (COB) strips pack the LEDs so tightly you see one continuous line. Standard strips have visible LEDs that blend into a line inside a deeper profile or a cove.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

3000K warm white for living areas and bedrooms, 4000K natural white for kitchens and bathrooms, 6000K cool white for garages and workshops.

How do I choose the right profile?

Start with the strip width: every profile lists the widest strip it takes. Then choose surface, recessed or trimless depending on how you want it to mount. A deeper profile gives a smoother line of light.

Can I cut and join LED strips?

Yes. Cut on the marked cut lines, and join lengths back together by soldering or with a connector, so you can make up the length you need. Once a strip has been cut it can't be returned.

Indoor or outdoor?

IP20 strips are for dry indoor spaces. For bathrooms, outdoors or anywhere damp, choose an IP65 or IP67 strip or neon flex, with a waterproof driver.

Can I dim my strip lights?

Yes, with a controller. Fit a remote dimmer kit, a touch dimmer or a sensor between the driver and the strip. A normal wall dimmer will not work.

How long do LED strips last?

Our strips carry a 2-year warranty.
